The Prophet Isaiah lists 4 ailments Jesus Christ took upon Himself on the cross for all mankind: Sickness (53:3-4,10), Disease (v3-4), Sin (v5-6, 8, 11-12), and Death (v8-9, 12). In love, God laid on His Son (John 3:16, Isa 9:6) the entire “Curse of the Law” (Deut 28:15-68) so that we would no longer bear the Curse ourselves (Gal 3:13-14)–This is the Good News known as the Gospel!

“However, it was our sicknesses that He Himself bore,
And our pains that He carried;
Yet we ourselves assumed that He had been afflicted,
Struck down by God, and humiliated.
But He was pierced for our offenses,
He was crushed for our wrongdoings;
The punishment for our well-being was laid upon Him,
And by His wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:4-5 NASB)
We receive these precious promises of God by faith in Jesus (Rom 10:9-10, 4:20-22, Mark 11:22-24), and faith increases by hearing the Word of Christ (Rom 10:16-17, Luke 17:5). This is why the Church exists: to hear God’s Word, to grow strong in faith, and to serve Jesus together in love (Acts 2:42-47, 5:42) as we draw closer to the Resurrection!
